Beaches of Goa

   Goa has hundreds of beaches big as well as small that dot the Goan coastline which is more than 100 km long. Some of the important beaches are Calangute and Baga Beaches, Candolim and Sinquerim Beaches, Anjuna Beach, Chapora Miramar, Dona Paula, Morjim, Ashvem and Mandrem Beach in North Goa. Among the well known South Goa beaches are Colva , Benaulim, Mobor, Varca, Bogmalo, Betul, Palolem, Patnem and Galgibaga Beach.

Calangute and Baga Beaches

   A continuous beach stretch in Bardez taluka of North Goa located about 10 Kms from Mapusa. More details are given in Calangute Beach in Goa.

Anjuna Beach

   This beach is close to the Chapora fort. Anjuna was once the second home of the hippies in Goa in the 60's and 70's. The flea market that started around those days was a place where they used to sell off their second hand stuff befor returning back to their county. It is still venue of a flea market held each Wednesday which has now vastly changed in nature. A wide variety of goods like trinkets, beads, handicrafts, carpets are for sale. Besides enterprising locals put up stalls of an assortment of home made eatables.

Vagator Beach

   Vagator with its rocky terrain surrounding the beach presents an irresistible sight to the visitor. A dense coconut plantation surrounding the beach adds to the beauty of the place and forms an ideal natural canopy for the beach. This beach is close to the Anjuna beach and has the ramparts of the Chapora fort as its backdrop. The other highlight of the beach is the presence of cracked rocks which adds to the scenery.

Candolim and Sinquerim Beaches

   These beaches are located in North Goa's Bardez taluka. Once humble fishing villages they are now popular beach destinations in Goa.

Chapora Beach

   This is a beach near Vagator beach. The Chapora fort touches this beach. Chapora is a fishing village and there is a fishing jetty close to the beach.

Morjim and Ashvem Beaches

   These two beaches are located in the northern most taluka of Pernem. Morjim Beach is famous as Olive Ridley turtles visit this beach to nest.

Mandrem Beach

   This is another beach in Pernem taluka of North Goa.

Miramar Beach

   This beach lies on the banks on the river Mandovi in the heart of Goa's capital city Panjim or Panaji. The various facilities provided for childern to play are the speciality, the highlight being a giant concrete fish.

Dona Paula Beach

   This beach lies close to the capital of Goa Panaji. Facilities for water sports such as water Scootering are available here. The National Institute of Oceanography lies close by.

Colva Beach

   This beach is the most popular beach in South Goa. The fine silvery Sand , sea and its natural scenic beauty is said to have have inspired many folk dances. It is also a shell collectors paradise.

Palolem Beach

   This is a very scenic beach in Canacona taluka in south Goa. This beach was an isolated beach till the early nineties, but of late it is also getting crowded. The approach to the beach has coconut plantations. The rocks and the islands of the Palolem shore present a very scenic View. A beach not to be missed.

Patnem Beach

   This is a small and quiet beach in Canacona taluka, the southern most taluka of Goa.
